Aim
Metrocar 4001 - The Prototype
Seen in the picture to your left, Metrocar 4001 is the prototype of the Metrocars.
As it is the first to be built on Britain’s first Light Railway System and as it wears the Tyne and Wear PTE livery, this train is a symbol and icon of North Eastern Heritage and Railways.
As DB Regio Tyne and Wear Ltd are planning to refurbish all 90 Metrocars, including 4001 so they all last for the next 30 years, our aim is to raise funds and buy Metrocar 4001 and then restore it to it's origional condition so it stays a running train which carries on North Eastern Identity and Heritage instead of it going to scrap.
